One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century – as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife, Maira, from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight.
We go to the theatre to be entertained and hopefully through the magic of the stage, to be transported to a place where we can laugh, cry, and totally leave our worries and troubles behind, even if just for a brief moment. This farce by the incredibly talented Ken Ludwig, who also penned the extremely popular Lend Me a Tenor, as well as the musical Crazy for You, might be just the perfect recipe for that. And don’t let the title fool you. You won’t really need to know anything about opera to enjoy this rib-tickling joyride of a show.
The intricately entangled story line is riddled with mistaken identities resulting in many hilarious misunderstandings. As new plot twists ensue, they weave an elaborate and comical web of confusion and misconstrusion. But as it all unravels, Ludwig’s clever tale comes to a very satisfying and heartwarming end. All that’s left now is for you to sit back, relax, let yourself be transported and enjoy the ride! “Toi toi toi!”
